Looking at all the different websites that are out there, I think it’s pretty great that there are so many different designs. Let me tell you what I mean. Alright, so there is a lot of different kind of variety between different sites. I’ve seen some that are like really simple, I mean they are basically just some text and it’s not formatted really, and those sites are just for information but they aren’t supposed to be really fancy or glitzy. Then at the opposite side, you’ve got sites that are really nicely designed but don’t necessarily have that much info on them, but are almost like works of art. And then there’s all that animated stuff that looks cool but really doesn’t add any functionality to the site.
Then you’ve got the sites that are designed to help you buy things. If you look at something like Amazon, it’s got this huge list of books that are available, and you can choose the items you want and it will remember them and you can order them. That’s pretty awesome. And then if you’ve ever gone on a trip and booked your hotel online, you probably used a website to do that, too, and it was probably pretty awesome that you could see all the available places online. Some of the hotel website design I have seen is pretty good, and I bet the hotel reservation systems they have to utilize in addition to the front end that the user sees are pretty involved. And then of course there are the sites that let you post messages to your friends and all of those types of things. I don’t use too many of those, but I know there are a lot and a lot of people are really into them, so I guess there’s probably some use for them.
But really, I just like the fact that I can go on the internet and see just about whatever I want, and get new recommendations for books and movies and that kind of thing. I know a lot of people like to use the internet for other things, too, but I mostly just use it to figure out what I want to do, or what is worth doing, and I will also post things that I like on forums although forums are another topic altogether because they can quickly turn into venues for big arguments.
